The Department of Commerce is a distinguished academic unit dedicated to providing comprehensive education and training in the field of commerce and was established in 2013. Since then, it has been scaling heights. The department's mission is to integrate commercial knowledge into training of creative and capable individuals for global business and service sectors, and to inspire them to start their own ventures in urban and rural areas. The department starts with Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) that equips students with essential knowledge and skills in various aspects of commerce, such as accounting, finance, marketing, and business management. Later in 2015, Master of Commerce (M.Com) was introduced, for students who wish to specialize in areas such as advanced accounting, financial management, and international business and Taxation etc. The department has a team of well-qualified and experienced faculty members who are dedicated to fostering a stimulating learning environment. With advanced degrees and a mix of academic and professional experience, they ensure high-quality education and mentorship. The faculty actively engages in the latest trends and advancements in commerce and business. Faculty also encourages students to participate in sports, NSS, NCC, and other co-curricular activities. The Commerce department is showing tremendous participation in academic as well as co-curricular activities. Students are not only dependent on classroom learning but are also engaged in assignment, presentations, seminars, and projects etc. They also participate in sports, youth festivals and other skill enhancement activities organized by the department. The extension activities such as educational visits or community service program not only broaden learning through the exposure to outer world but a sense of belongingness. The department engages students in intra and inter-collegiate debates, group discussions, quizzes, role-plays, case studies, and skits etc. that foster communication, and leadership skill as well as teamwork. They also organize Entrepreneurship programs in collaboration with external agencies. Thus, the department balances rigorous academics with diverse co-curricular, offering courses and research that encourage critical thinking and practical application. Regular workshops, seminars, and guest lecture provide real-world business insights. Students enhance the department’s prestige through university ranks and high placements.

B.Com.:Under the NEP 2020, the B.Com Regular program is designed to provide a well-rounded education in commerce, incorporating multidisciplinary approaches and flexibility in learning. This program typically spans three to four years, offering multiple entry and exit points to accommodate diverse student needs and career aspirations.

A student will be offered 4 groups namely Accounting, Management, Economics and Law. Group 1 will be compulsory for B.Com students.

However, they may opt for any two groups out of remaining three groups.

  • A student can opt for a MDSC course subject to following conditions:
    1. The student must not have studied that course in 10+2 level.
    2. The student must not have taken that course as a core subject.
  • A student can choose MDSC from following list:
    1. Laws (MDSC1, MDSC 2, MDSC 3)
    2. International Business (MDSC1, MDSC 2, MDSC 3)
    3. ICT (MDSC1, MDSC 2, MDSC 3)

The examination in B.Com Part-I shall be open to a student who produces the following certificates to the Principal of the college.

  • Of having passing at least +2 examination of Punjab School Education Board or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with at least:
  • Of having passing at least +2 examination of Punjab School Education Board or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with at least:
  • OR

  • 45% marks in the aggregate in case of students who have passed 10+2 in any stream.
  • OR

  • 50% marks in the aggregate in case of students who have passed 10+2 but not covered under (a) and (b) above; provided that candidate placed under reappear in not more than one subject in 10+2 examination of Punjab School Education Board or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto shall also be eligible to this course but such candidates shall have to clear reappear subject in the supplementary examination of the same year failing which his admission to B.Com Part I course shall automatically stand cancelled.

M.COM (Master of Commerce):Master of Commerce (M.Com) is a postgraduate degree program in commerce and business studies. This course is divided into two parts. Each part is divided into two semesters. Hence this course consists of four semesters.

A student who has passed Bachelor’s degree from recognized University i.e. B.Com/BBA/BBM/BCA/BA in Commerce or Business Administration or Computer Application or Foreign trade or Economics with minimum 50% marks (45% in case of Reserved Category) shall be held eligible for admission to M.Com degree. The admission will be based on merit.

M.Com.:The Master of Commerce (M.Com) degree is an advanced postgraduate program aimed at providing students with specialized knowledge and skills in commerce, finance, and business. This program builds upon the foundational concepts learned in undergraduate studies, such as the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), and prepares students for higher-level roles in academia, research, industry, and management.

Training and Placements:

The Department of Commerce has achieved remarkable success in placing its graduates across a diverse range of sectors. A significant number of students have secured prestigious positions in leading banks such as Axis Bank, IDBI Bank, HDFC Bank and Co-operative Bank, reflecting their strong analytical and financial skills. Additionally, several graduates have joined the Punjab Police. Furthermore, many students have pursued careers as Chartered Accountants, showcasing their proficiency in accounting and auditing, and underscoring the department's commitment to academic excellence and professional development. A significant number of students have secured prestigious positions in leading hospitals such as IVY hospital. Some of them have chosen being teachers as their profession. Apart from this few students after completing their graduation or post graduation have been settled in abroad. These successful placements highlight the department's dedication to equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in their chosen careers.

In the present session (2024 - 25) the Department of Commerce will organize an impressive array of activities and events designed to enhance student learning and engagement. Starting with an Orientation Program to welcome new students, the department will host various lectures on different topics. Different days and festivals will also be celebrated in department like Teachers' Day, literacy day, World Mother Language Day, international girl child day, women day, Diwali, Karwa Chauth, teej etc. The department will organize the grand COMMFEST 2025. Youth Brigade Commerce Association

The department boasts its own students' association, the Youth Brigade Commerce Association, which serves as a dynamic platform for student engagement and development. All faculty members are also integral members of this association, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. The association is led by two presidents: - a girl and a boy. This practice encourage all the students to enhanced their leadership qualities and expand their skills. The association organizes various events, aimed at enhancing the practical knowledge and skills of students.
